Vegan Restaurants in San Diego

San Diego has quietly become one of the coolest spots for vegans, with options scattered across neighborhoods like North Park, Ocean Beach, and South Park. You’ll find everything from plant-based tacos to hearty vegan brunches that even meat-eaters can’t argue with. And yes, places like Donna Jean in Mission Hills and Kindred in South Park have some of the most inventive vegan menus around.

If you’re visiting during the summer, don’t miss grabbing a vegan burrito from Tribal Bowl in City Heights or dipping into their famous acai bowls. Winter’s great too because many spots offer warming vegan chilis and mac ’n’ cheese that feel like a total treat. Oh, and if you’re planning to hit one place, try the vegan mushroom bisque at Cafe Gratitude,it’s a local favorite for a reason.

One thing I’ve learned: some of the best vegan bites aren’t in fancy places but cozy, offbeat cafes and food trucks. So don’t just stick to the main drag, explore side streets and markets. Pro tip: hit up the Little Italy Mercato on Saturday mornings and you’ll spot vegan vendors that don’t show up anywhere else.
