Description

Begin your adventure with a stop at the Maritime Museum of San Diego Ticket Booth. You will receive a detailed map to help you navigate the fleet and the unseen treasures found in dozens of below deck exhibits. Start your visit to the Maritime Museum of San Diego with a tour of the 1898 Victorian-era steam ferry boat, Berkeley. See a range of exhibits on the naval and commercial fishing industry history within below-deck galleries. Learn about navigational exploration and explore vintage photography and artwork, military artifacts, and impressive yacht models. After the Berkeley, head down the gangway underwater to the USS Dolphin submarine. Explore the USS Dolphin sub and see what the world’s deepest dive submarine looks like on the inside, how the sailors lived and worked while at sea! Make your way to the Vietnam-era PCF 816 Swift boat, the 1904 royal steam yacht Medea, and a 1914 Pilot boat - the nation's oldest active working pilot boat. The pilot and Swift boat Veteran crews take visitors out on the water for narrated Bay tours for a small additional cost. So, check with the ticket booth staff about availability when you arrive!) See the 16th-century galleon replica sailed into San Diego in 1542 by Spanish Explorer Cabrillo. Tour dockside both the replica galleon San Salvador and the Californian topsail schooner, the official tall ship of the state. (Most weekends these ships sail. So, if can budget the time and added ticket, you may enjoy a 4-hour adventure sail! With general admission, explore the historic collection of ships, including the world’s oldest active ship, the Star of India. The Museum invites guests to roam Star's three decks of treasured exhibits and gallery space. Learn about the history of the great Age of Sail onboard. Then head over to admire the H.M.S Surprise, which has undergone restorations to the main deck and below deck exhibitor areas. This ever-popular Navy frigate replica was featured in the award-winning film 'Master and Commander:' and Pirates of Caribbean film.

  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Prepare to climb on and off ship decks or climb up and down ship ladders. Food and drinks are not permitted inside the Museum. The ticket booth closes at 4:00 p.m. Last entry into the museum is 4:00 p.m. The H.M.S. Surprise upper main deck (outdoor) area of the vessel has reopened and may be visited
